Coral Garden “鯨岩”
葉山の海には、まるで鯨が棲んでいるかのような景色があります。
海底から水面を目指して泳いできたようにそびえる奇岩は、ザトウクジラの横顔のように見え、私はこの岩を「鯨岩」と呼んでいます。
その顎の下には小さな魚たちが群れ、多くの命を育む場所となっています。
昨年の春、鎌倉の海で、強風に羽を折られた三羽のアナドリに出会いました。
目の前で消えようとしていた小さな命を、私は忘れたくありませんでした。
命は生まれ、育ち、やがて旅立っていく。
鯨岩は、そんな幾つもの命の物語を静かに見守る、母鯨のような存在なのかもしれません。
この作品には、葉山の海で出会った命への祈りと、巡り続ける生命の物語を描いています。

Artwork Description
Coral Garden “Whale Rock”
In the sea of Hayama, there is a landscape that feels as if a whale lives there.
Rising dramatically from the seafloor toward the surface, a massive and unusual rock towers above the water. Its form resembles the profile of a humpback whale, and I call this rock “Whale Rock.”
Beneath what appears to be its jaw, small fish always gather, as if protected by a mother whale. The area surrounding Whale Rock is filled with the presence of many living creatures—a place that nurtures life. Inspired by this rock, I wanted to tell a story, and this work was created from that feeling.
This spring, while walking along the morning shore of Kamakura, I encountered three shearwaters on the sand. Their wings had been broken by the fierce winds that had raged until the day before, and the light of life within them was fading. I could not save them, but faced with lives that were still breathing, I could not simply walk away. I stayed beside them for as long as time allowed.
So that I would not forget the lives disappearing before my eyes, I did the only thing I could—I captured them in my painting. I engraved deeply in my heart the wish to leave these three birds within my work.
Creatures are born and grow around Whale Rock, a place that nurtures life, before setting off into the wider world. And like a mother whale, quietly watching over countless births and departures, I painted this work while overlapping these images within my heart.

Installation
Please hang the artwork by placing nails or hooks in the wall and using the two ring hooks on the back of the frame.
